Fresh off collaborating on the track Freaks, released on the Its Always Places Like This EP out on Wide Records, Egyptrixx (Toronto, Wide) and DJ Slugo (Dance Mania, Databass) are bringing the booty bass, bassline, ghetto-house, jacking and juke tracks to the last 17+ show at the Abbey Pub. Apparently, these shows get a bit too rowdy, but maybe that’s what this line-up is asking for! With support from Wide-label-mate Chrissy Murderbot and young up-and-coming DJs MopTop (Starters) and Cue-Tek (Ghetto Division), Saturday, June 6th will be banging with the best in newest dubstep, bassline, electro and ghetto, and entirely for the kids.
A Toronto-based jack-of-all-trades dealing predominantly in the currency of bass, EGYPTRIXX has a style that dips its toes in many genres, bringing together traditional house references, with monstrous basslines, and twitchy rhythms. His productions walk a thin line between ghettotech, jackin House, bassline and dubstep and his unique approach to bass weight beats have gained the support from the likes of Drop The Lime, AC Slater, Night slugs crew, DZ, Mumdance, Dre Skull, Starkey and L-Vis 1990.
Chicago’s own DJ SLUGO is a pioneer of Ghetto House, better known as Juke. The self-proclaimed GHETTO DON, SLUGO is responsible for the raunchy, ghetto, raw and straight to the point dance tracks released on the world famous Dance Mania. Everyone has shaken their asses to his tracks “Hit it From The Back,” “Wouldn’t you like to be a ho?” “Where the Rats,” and others.
A recently-signed Wide Records artist, CHRISSY MURDERBOT plays and produces ghetto house, dubstep, bassline, neo-rave, new disco, and a lot of etcetera. After a successful early career releasing post-neo-protojunglism via labels such as Mashit and Clash, Chrissy Murderbot now releases more eclectic fare via his own Dead Homies and Sleazetone labels. His labels have released tracks and remixes from Ssion, Monkey Steak, Drop the Lime, James Braun, Starkey, Glass Candy, Hawnay Troof, Norrit, DJ C, and more. Wide Records has just released his first EP The Ace of Fades, a style-juggling mix of Booty, Rave, Techno, Jungle, and Ghetto.
DJ MOP TOP (Starters) came to Chicago in 2005, and after roughly a year of performing solo in Chicago, Mop Top was able to gain residencies at such venues as Funky Buddha Lounge. Mop Top and Young Live formed ‘Starters DJs’ to create a fresh and unique party experience. Recently Mop Top was involved with Starters DJs release with URB Magazine and Frank151. With hype from Starters DJs on blogs and other press, Mop Top has shared the stage with acts such as Diplo, N.A.S.A, GZA, Cool Kids, Dj Sega, Designer Drugs, Nick Catchdubs.
The southside of Chicago has always been a hotbed for the newest trends in dance music and recently, it’s been no different. The attention has turned to its newest favorite sons, the Ghetto Division crew, with support from Mad Decent (who called them “Chicago’s finest DJ and production crew, and [who] are creating their own lane in the club music game”), and press on Trash Menagerie, Discobelle, iheartcomix and more. As one of the youngest guns on the crew, CUE-TEK knows his history, and traverses styles easily from disco to the ghetto house Ghetto Division guys are known for. Regardless of genre, Cue-tek’s set is guaranteed to be quintessentially Chicagoian.
Look forward to a night of rowdy bass-driven sounds and a great party, at Abbey on Saturday, June 6th.
This night is the first benefit for the Chicago Electronic Music and Arts Coalition, a non-profit planning body for the Chicago Electronic Music festival. A portion of the proceeds will go toward the effort to bring a representative electronic music festival to Chicago, showcasing innovative electronic artists and talent from all over the world.
